Our planting strategy is to enhance what is already on the site. We propose to plant 400 new trees on the waterfront, to create allées of small flowering trees along the main trail, create bioswales, and restore the meadows and wetlands. Creating a dedicated stormwater management system integrated with the landscape would clean the runoff before discharging it into the river, and would support the local ecology. Collecting rainwater on-site would create an opportunity for non-potable water use and reduce impact on the municipal water system. In addition, development of the overall project would remove almost 20 acres of land from the borough combined sewer system, thus reducing CSO events and protecting the quality of the river’s water.
