The majority of the park, located on the plateau, is above the floodplain. The drainage of rainwater from Sharpsburg towards the river is blocked by the landfill plateau, particularly at the low elevation of Main Street, which leads to devastating flooding in Sharpsburg. We’re proposing concepts for the park to contribute to alleviating some of the flooding issues.
